Making change - Advancements in national digital currency

Fueled by the rise of new technology and sweeping digitization, an evolution in finance and payments is underway. Beyond the growth in new payment companies, such as Bitcoin, the phenomenon has also spurred national monetary authorities, including the US Federal Reserve, to explore digital forms of sovereign currency known as CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency). The pandemic has created a highly volatile and uncertain environment for businesses resulting in new or heightened risks for directors and officers.

Accellion cyber incident

March 25, 2021

Accellion FTA (File Transfer Appliance), a 20-year old product nearing end-of-life, was the target of a sophisticated cyberattack in December 2020. The Accellion cyber incident is thought to have impacted at least 300 customers, but the damage continues to be unveiled. While exploiting vulnerabilities in vendor software is not an uncommon pastime for bad actors, what’s concerning about this event is the nature of the breached data and the size of the ransoms demanded. This cyber incident was explored further, insurance considerations were discussed and actionable recommendations to mitigate cyber risks were provided.

FINEX Flash Webinar Series – COVID-19 Vaccine

January 26, 2021

In the January installment of FINEX Flash, we discussed employment practice liability issues that may arise with the COVID-19 vaccine. As more vaccines become approved, we are getting closer to the time when distribution will be available for the general public. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has provided some guidance for employers who choose to make it mandatory for their employees to get vaccinated.
