Global adoption surges, pushing digital assets further into the mainstream

Companies are increasingly integrating digital assets into their core business models. According to a Coinbase study from mid-2025, 60% of Fortune 500 companies are actively working on blockchain, digital asset, or tokenization initiatives.

  • Digital assets are reshaping the movement of money, the construction of investment portfolios and the functioning of modern financial infrastructure.
  • Institutional participation continues to rise, stablecoins are moving toward clearer regulatory frameworks and crypto’s inherent volatility means that even minor exposures can significantly impact overall portfolio risk.
  • As blockchain-powered networks begin to replace traditional payment and record‑keeping systems, both businesses and investors need well‑informed strategies to navigate the shift.

Global regulatory frameworks continue to evolve

Spearheaded by the Financial Stability Board (FSB), global regulatory frameworks for digital assets are rapidly shifting toward harmonized principles, focused on consumer protection, financial stability and anti-money laundering.

  • In the U.S., the GENIUS Act has established a strong foundation for the regulation and classification of stablecoins, providing clarity on their treatment by both the SEC and CFTC — confirming that they are neither securities nor commodities.
  • Although the STABLE Act is currently stalled, it has meaningful potential for near-term advancement and would permit approved non-bank entities to participate within the regulatory framework.
  • Additionally, the CLARITY Act represents a significant legislative proposal that, if enacted, would materially impact digital asset businesses, retail investors and financial institutions by establishing a comprehensive regulatory structure for all digital assets. The likelihood of its passage in 2026 is considered strong.

Where does the market stand on providing affirmative crime coverage

This is an emerging industry. Most U.S. crime policies contain digital asset exclusions; therefore, affirmative coverage must be negotiated. London and Bermuda lead the crime marketplace for both cold and warm/hot storage coverage.

  • While cold storage only is a preferred model for the marketplace in general, obtaining warm/hot storage coverage is achievable, though with a lower total capacity.
  • Warm/hot wallet operations will require deeper underwriting and more scrutiny.
  • Crime insurance is intended to cover your traditional internal and external fraud loss scenarios, such as the misappropriation, theft or hack of digital assets.
  • Affirmative digital asset language is routinely added to programs now. Approximately $125 million in capacity is available out of the London market today with over a dozen markets comfortable with the risk.
  • It’s important to evaluate your full suite of financial and professional coverage lines to ensure coverage for digital asset exposures is included.
