The central theme running through the report is choice: trustees and sponsors now have more options than ever, thanks to a wider range of insurance solutions, anticipated legislative changes around surplus release and superfunds, and increased competition between providers. In the report, we outline our perspectives on the bulk annuity, longevity swap and superfund markets, and explore how schemes can navigate the growing range of options to secure the strongest possible outcomes.

In 2025 the risk transfer market passed the significant milestone of £0.5 trillion of transactions since the market was founded. The WTW transaction team is proud to have led the advice on over 25% of this amount. We continue to be at the heart of this dynamic market and to support trustees and sponsors in achieving their de-risking objectives across all deal types and sizes. We would welcome the opportunity to discuss how your scheme can best manage risk in the current landscape.

WTW's record in numbers - 2025: 5 of 6 longevity swaps transacted were led by WTW. Market leader by liability transferred where leading transaction advice, 30 June 2024 to 30 June 2025.* Lead adviser on 40+ transactions. Led buy-ins with 9 different insurers. Transactions sizes ranging from £1m to £5bn. £17bn of liabilities transferred to insurers and reinsurers.

Note: Unless otherwise indicated WTW were the lead trustee adviser on the project and provided the regulated advice.
