In 2024, Arm launched its first People Data Census to better understand the diverse experiences of its growing global workforce. Now in its second year, the initiative has become a cornerstone of Arm’s data-driven approach to inclusion. This case study outlines how they did it, what they learned, and how they’re acting on what was heard.
01
Arm is committed to creating an inclusive, supportive environment where everyone can do their best work. The People Data Census is a key part of this commitment and is now an ongoing project that helps Arm better understand the evolving needs of their workforce. Arm launched the Census in 2024 to gather demographic insights and continued that over the last year because of a significant surge in global headcount. With more people joining from varied backgrounds, Arm needed to ensure support structures kept pace with growing diversity. It gives a clearer picture of who Arm’s people are and helps make evidence-based decisions about policies, benefits, and workplace practices, ensuring fairness and equity are built into everything they do.
02
Arm partnered with WTW and worked closely across the company to ensure the survey was secure, confidential, and fully compliant with local data privacy laws in all participating countries. Arm also engaged with Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and their internal DEI Council early on to help shape the language and tone of the questions, build trust, and ensure the approach felt inclusive. After each Census, a follow-up review was conducted to capture successes and lessons learned, helping drive continuous improvement around experience and effectiveness.
03
Arm took a multi-channel, human-centered approach. From tailored email communications, intranet and Slack content to digital screensavers and office leaderboards, the company made it easy for people to understand why the Census mattered and how data would drive action. Arm also pre-briefed key stakeholders—site leads, ERG leaders, and functional reps—equipping them with content so they could actively raise awareness and drive completions within their teams, sites, and communities.
To encourage participation this year, Arm highlighted success stories from individuals positively impacted by the activities undertaken from the results of 2024, pledged a $2 donation to local charities for every completed Census, and offered treats for sites reaching over 75% participation. This personal, playful, yet purposeful approach helped build momentum and showed that every response, disclosed or not, adds value.
04
In 2024, we had a 56% response rate (representing 45% of Arm’s global workforce) and in 2025, Arm achieved a 63% response rate (representing 51% of the global workforce). These statistically significant results have given a detailed snapshot of the lived experiences and identities across Arm’s workforce, from gender identity and religion to caregiving responsibilities and neurodiversity. Arm identified clear site- and country-level themes, improved their understanding of intersectionality, and used the findings to strengthen wellbeing, benefits, and accessibility strategies.
05
Arm shared results in a way that protects anonymity and builds trust, using a clear two-phase approach. Once the Census closed and initial results were received, Arm created an engaging infographic highlighting global trends. This was embedded in an internal blog that reinforced the findings in writing, celebrated high-participation sites (75% and above), outlined next steps, and linked to relevant support services. Eligible participants and key DEI stakeholders received this first—via email and private channels—before it was rolled out across company-wide communications. This approach reinforced that individual efforts were valued, and voices were heard, while also demonstrating how Census input is shaping real change. Throughout the year, Arm continued to spotlight progress to maintain transparency and accountability.
06
We’ll continue to build on this foundation, embedding insights from the Census into everyday decision-making. This includes working with functional leaders to address gaps, ensuring Arm’s systems and support structures adapt to people’s needs, and expanding the Census to more countries as privacy laws and readiness allow. Ultimately, Arm’s goal is simple: keep making it a place where everyone can thrive, by listening deeply and acting boldly.
