Nicolas Faquet, Group CEO at Roojai, shares how Radar has been central to building Thailand’s leading direct-to-consumer insurance platform
Thailand’s direct auto insurance market has undergone a profound transformation over the past ten years, and few companies have been at the forefront of that change more decisively than Roojai. Founded on a direct-to-consumer model that was ahead of its time, the company has grown from a bold start-up vision into one of Thailand’s most recognised insurance brands. At the heart of that journey sits a technology partnership that has endured every upgrade cycle, every scaling challenge and every market shift: Roojai’s decade-long relationship with WTW’s Radar pricing platform.
The Challenge: A Market Ready for Change
When Roojai launched, Thailand’s insurance market presented a striking paradox: a large and growing customer base, yet a near-complete absence of granular pricing segmentation. Premiums were largely undifferentiated regardless of a driver’s age, gender or actual risk profile, meaning lower-risk customers were effectively subsidising higher-risk ones. For a platform built around transparency and customer choice, this was both a fundamental constraint and a significant opportunity. To build a genuinely differentiated proposition, Roojai needed the analytical capability to segment risk with precision and the operational agility to translate that analysis into market-ready pricing quickly and at scale.
Deploying Pricing at Speed
The introduction of Radar in 2016 fundamentally reshaped Roojai’s pricing operations, allowing business users to develop and deploy models independently rather than routing changes through IT. This reduced turnaround times from weeks to a much more agile, near real-time process.
“Today it takes 2 to 3 days to deploy a new pricing model with UAT testing. Very high accuracy, very easy to roll back and redeploy within a week.”
This kind of agility translates directly into competitive advantage. While legacy insurers navigate lengthy release cycles, Roojai’s team can respond to emerging data signals, test new segmentation approaches and bring refined pricing to market within days. That same speed scales with the sophistication of the models themselves: every month, the actuarial team incorporates at least 2,000 variables into its pricing models, a volume of continuous refinement that would have been operationally impossible under traditional approaches.
Reshaping How Thailand Buys Insurance
Perhaps the most compelling measure of what Radar-powered pricing can achieve is visible not in Roojai’s internal operations, but in the market behaviour it has helped to shape. When the company introduced dynamic deductible pricing, giving customers real-time visibility into how their coverage choices affect their premiums, the response exceeded expectations at a market level.
“We’ve been able to change the way the customer buys the product in the market by convincing them to take much more excess deductible than the market. The Thai market had about 5% of customers buying with a deductible. With Roojai it’s about 75%. Because they quickly see the impact and how much they can save.”
That shift, from 5% to 75% deductible adoption, reflects what we believe great pricing technology should ultimately deliver: outcomes that are genuinely better for both the insurer and the customer. By making the economics of risk visible and accessible, Roojai has built deeper, more informed trust with Thai consumers.
AI-Enabled Efficiency
As Radar’s capabilities have evolved, so has its role across Roojai’s broader operations. The platform’s AI-assisted coding functionality has become a meaningful tool for team development and knowledge transfer, reducing the time it takes for new hires to engage productively with complex pricing models. For Roojai, this means the organisation’s accumulated pricing knowledge is accessible from day one, compounding its analytical capability over the long term.
A Decade of Partnership
Few metrics speak more powerfully to the quality of a technology partnership than a flawless decade of uninterrupted operations. Across multiple infrastructure and software upgrades over ten years, platform continuity has never been in doubt.
Today it takes 2 to 3 days to deploy a new pricing model with UAT testing. Very high accuracy, very easy to roll back and redeploy within a week.
“Over 10 years we never had the system go down. We have 10 tech components and all of them went down at some stage. But Radar is probably the only component that’s been live and running 100% of the time over the last 10 years, which is quite amazing as a platform.”
For an insurer whose pricing engine underpins every customer interaction, from the first online quote through to renewal, this reliability is not a technical footnote. It is a fundamental business enabler, and one that the Roojai team has been able to depend on completely throughout a period of sustained growth.
Looking Ahead
As Roojai continues to scale and as Thailand’s insurance market deepens its embrace of data-driven approaches, the partnership with WTW and Radar remains central to the company’s forward strategy. With new analytical capabilities and AI tooling continuing to develop, the foundation is firmly in place for the next chapter of innovation.
For us at WTW, it is precisely the kind of partnership we are proud to sustain: one built on a shared commitment to pricing excellence and the conviction that getting risk right produces better outcomes for everyone.
