Surprisingly flexibility and choice and communication were ranked lower although both have a negative impact on the overall assessment of benefits.

According to WTW’s Global Benefits and Attitudes survey 2022, Swiss employees are generally positive about their benefits package, e.g., almost half of the participants indicate that the benefits provided by their employer meet their needs.

The study also confirms that benefits packages that meet the needs of employees result in greater retention and are linked to greater work engagement and less days lost due to absence and presenteeism.

To enhance the employee’s perception of benefits, employers can provide more flexibility and choice, e.g., employers that offer a benefits package that provides a flexible benefits fund to the employee receive the best marks.

Besides that, communication that is relevant to one’s own personal circumstances and tools that support the employees to choose the right benefits are strongly linked to employee’s confidence in their benefits selection. Employees want to be heard and employers should pay special attention to this.

When asking employees about benefits that they want their employers to put a greater focus on, retirement benefits is the area which employees want their employers to focus on most, followed by flexible work arrangements, investing in careers, managing emotional health, and getting the most from my benefits.
