Research themes
The Flood and Water management research hub seeks to understand risks related to times when water becomes a problem. This could arise when there is too much to little or it isn’t good enough, respectively floods, droughts or water quality problems.
Featured projects
PFAS or forever chemicals are a group of very useful, but long lived, chemicals which have adverse impacts on human health and the environment. Together with Newcastle University we are tracking their movement through catchments to support industry.
CityCAT is a flood model developed by partners at Newcastle University which can capture the full complexities of hydrodynamic modelling. This makes it the ideal tool to improve the understanding of all types of flooding whether in an urban setting or because of a dam failure.
NATURANCE is an EU Horizons program seeking to understand how Nature based Solutions can reduce flood risk and enhance insurability and discover whether insurance has a part to play in nature restoration.
Flooding is challenging the insurability of homes and businesses. In this project with partners at Loughborough University, we are seeking to grasp the wider impacts on property values and the knock-on effects banking stability.
The Global Flood Partnership supports flood mapping and modelling at a global scale. Working with academics, government agencies and humanitarian organisations to deliver precision understanding of flood risk at pace.
