Our 2022 Global Benefits Attitudes Survey explores the perspectives of full-time employees on changing work patterns, the role of benefits in talent attraction and retention, benefit preferences, retirement expectations and wellbeing.

Our findings reveal the needs and preferences of employees working in the shadows of COVID-19, their attitudes toward their employers and the resulting impact on productivity.

  • Benefits play an increasingly important role in employee decisions to stay or leave. Many employees — especially those in countries with tight labor markets — are looking for new job opportunities. The exit risk is often particularly high among senior staff. Pay and job security are key to attracting and retaining talent. Flexible work arrangements are also an important consideration for employees weighing job options.

    In addition, employees are seeking health and retirement security. In many countries, the importance of health and retirement benefits as attraction and retention tools has reached a 10-year high.

  • Remote work has been a mixed experience for employees. While employees give their employers high marks for their support during the pandemic, they have mixed views on remote work.

    Work patterns have shifted, and employees prefer more remote working. Even though they benefit from greater work/life balance, some remote workers also feel disconnected from their team and are worried about career development.
  • A culture of wellbeing helps employees thrive. An organizational culture that embraces wellbeing is strongly linked to better employee outcomes. Benefits play a key role in such a culture. Employees who say their benefits meet their needs are more likely to report higher levels of wellbeing.

With a better understanding of how employees value their benefits and how their needs are changing, employers have an opportunity to shape programs that meet employees where they are and help boost worker productivity.
