Graham McLean, Head of Scheme Funding at WTW was joined by Chinu Patel, Actuary and Chris Alford, Business Analyst from The Pensions Regulator, who talked us through the key messages and issues raised in the Annual DB Funding Statement 2022 and what actions need to be taken.

This statement is for trustees and sponsoring employers of occupational defined benefit (DB) pension schemes. It is particularly relevant to schemes with valuation dates between 22 September 2021 and 21 September 2022 (known as Tranche 17, or T17 valuations).

Both Chinu and Chris provided an overview and thinking behind this year’s statement - covering covenant messages, long-term funding targets, managing risks, and actuarial and investment considerations.

There was also a live Q&A session hosted by Bina Mistry, Head of Great Britain Corporate Pensions Consulting at WTW and Helena Mules, Director, Covenant Team at WTW.
