APRA is seeking more comprehensive information from superannuation funds in phase 2 of its data transformation project, identifying retirement outcomes for fund members, industry performance and efficiency, governance, risk management practices, fund operations and industry risks as key areas of interest.

This issue of Super Update gives an overview of the scope and approach to phase 2, outlining APRA’s recent discussion paper and proposed industry consultation periods, which will run from September this year to June 2023.

APRA has also proposed to publish new aggregate industry, fund-level and product-level statistics arising from phase 1 of the data transformation project, providing deeper insights into insurance arrangements, expenses, member demographics and asset allocation classifications. This is likely to commence in June 2022.

We also cover the financial reporting legislation introduced to parliament which included a number of welcome changes from the consultation draft, while our legislative update looks at other bills, regulations and consultations affecting super, including those that lapsed when the Federal election was called, as well as our news in brief and handy guide to key changes and their effective dates.
